Back in the day, a large number of people had more time than money and many had wood and metal working (black smithing) skills that would allow them to build their own machines. Images of manufactured machines were printed in catalogs and trade journals such as Carpenter and Builder. From these a number of “craftsman made” machines were made and from my experience, very few if any were labels with a date or name.
