Crown Lathe

The Crown lathe was referred to as a “Speed Lathe” as it would handle not only wood but could also be used to do limited metal turning with the addition of the “Crown” slide rest. With the slide rest attachment, you had a limited cross feed of 2 inches and a lateral feed to 5. Useful when you wanted more control compared to a hand held turning tool.

SF began offering it in about 1886 and later upgraded it in 1898. A counter shaft option was available to power it off of a line shaft.

If you wanted to run the lathe using a counter shaft to provide power, you could get the above option and run it off of steam, water or electrical power.
